Cultivated

April 15 through June 12, 2022

We are excited to present Cultivated, featuring paintings and photographs of our agricultural surroundings by gallery artists. From fallow fields to carefully planned raised beds, our artists explore the land, weather, and tools that create these constructed landscapes.

Our artists bring distinct observations to their subjects, combining inspiration from farms and gardens with unique creative explorations.

Pattern and decoration have been created out of lines of crops, quilted acreage, and overflowing blossoms.
Tightly cropped blooms and scattered petals refer us to action and color field paintings.
Barns and buildings become props for minimalist compositions.
Pop Art’s color and quotidian subjects show up in a watering can, hose, and garden chairs.
The past is present in worn equipment and wooden buildings.

In translating expanses of dry fields, promising rain clouds, and avian life and death into realist paintings and drawings, our artists have not reproduced agrarian idylls: instead, they have elevated our contemporary experience onto paper and canvas.
